What is a Marshal?
There are three near-equal priorities in marshaling; safety, fair witness, and showmanship. Overemphasizing any one of these at the expense of the others will tend to make the fighting less enjoyable for everyone (although, if you must go overboard on one, pick safety (especially with CA).
Combat Archery marshals do not have to also be an Armored Combat marshal but they are welcome to become one if they want. A marshal must be a registered member of the SCA and the East Kingdom. A marshal must be willing to set up and use their (freely provided) EK email address for official communications.
Combat Archery marshals need to be trained, authorized, and willing to perform the following functions:
- Perform Combat Archery authorizations for fightersÂ
- Perform Bow and Ammunition inspection at practices and eventsÂ
- Oversee melee combat with regards to Combat Archery rules and conventions
They must have demonstrated a good understanding of the combat archery and general melee rules of the society and the kingdom along with any other conventions. They must be willing to enforce those rules.
